Q1 : GUITAR PRO 6 - What differences are there between the trial (demo) and the full versions?

The demo version can open only the files that have been included in the software as samples. It cannot import or save files; and the RSE is limited to 5 soundbanks only (acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, drums, and piano).

Guitar Pro is natively Windows / Mac OS X / GNU Linux compatible.

On Windows: Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
On Mac: Mac OS X 10.4 and later (Intel processors only).
On Linux: Ubuntu (officially supported distribution).

- Does Guitar Pro support the Mandolin, Ukulele...? YES
All fretted 4- to 8-stringed instruments are supported, and their tunings are fully configurable.
NB: You can write scores for the mandolin, but Guitar Pro doesn't for the time being carry the corresponding soundbank.

- Can I plug a MIDI instrument (keyboard, guitar) in and capture what I play into Guitar Pro? YES
Guitar Pro 6 does support MIDI capture.

- Can I import a WAV or MP3 file? NO
WAV and MP3 are particular audio signal files from which it is very difficult, or even impossible, to properly extract a score.

Q5 : UPDATE - How do I update Guitar Pro 6? Do I need to pay again?

The Updater integrated into the software will automatically take care of the updates for v6.x.
If your computer is off-line, please find a detailed guide here.

As a registered version 6 customer, you are entitled to free updates to 6.x.
Just as well, you can download the software again, free of charge, is you move to another platform (Linux, Windows, or Mac OS); and activate it up to 5 times over a one-year period (cf. license agreement).

To download a new copy of the software, please go to the Customer Area of our Support section.

Q6 : FRETLIGHT READY - How can I update to the Fretlight Ready edition?

Guitar Pro 6 Fretlight Ready edition is available only on the Fretlight Guitar website and the Fretlight store.

Q7 : ORDER - How do I only get the downloadable version of the software?

Simply leave the "DVD-ROM" option unchecked on the order form.

Q8 : ORDER - I wish to receive the boxed DVD, what do I need to know?

You will receive a box with a DVD-ROM if you have checked the corresponding option (with additional shipping costs) on the order form. At any rate, you will be able to download the software as soon as your order is validated.

NB: The boxed DVD contains the exact same things as what you can download from your Customer Area.

Q9 : ORDER - What is "Instant Download"?

Do you wish to download Guitar Pro right away? Just type your e-mail address in the order form, and choose whichever type of payment you prefer -- credit card or Paypal. As soon as your payment is processed (normally under one minute), you will receive an e-mail with your personal license. You will then be able to download the full version of Guitar Pro from our website, by logging into the Customer Area of our Support section.

Please note that you can still give us an e-mail address even if you have chosen another form of payment. In that case, your license will be sent to you by e-mail as soon as we receive your payment.

Q10 : ORDER - Does the software come with a paper user's handbook?

NO. Our whole user's guide is included in the software itself (menu Help > Help...).
You can also download it in PDF format from your Customer Area (click the link 'Download').
Lastly, you can find here our community-powered customer support, and our video tutorials.

Q11 : ORDER - Is your payment system secure?

YES, IT IS. Our website is equipped with a secured online payment system directly linked to the bank via our partner CIC (Solution de Paiement CIC -- the CIC Group is the third largest banking network in France). The information you type in is encrypted and sent directly to the bank. We personally never have any knowledge of your credit card number.

Please note that you may also use PayPal for credit card payment (even if you don't have a PayPal account). This is a service used by over 150 million Internet users, and it is one of the best ways to place orders on commercial websites.

Q12 : ORDER - I do not want to pay online, or I have no credit card. How can I place my order?

Other "offline" payment options are offered on our order form online: you can pay via a bank transfer, or by check (for France only). You will find all necessary information at the end of the ordering process.

Q13 : ORDER - I want to pay by credit card but your system rejects my card.

For the moment, we can only accept VISA ou MasterCard. If you use AMERICAN EXPRESS or DISCOVER, please select the PayPal payment option.

Q14 : ORDER - How can I cancel an order?

If you have already completed your payment (by credit card or Paypal), you cannot cancel your order, so DO NOT PLACE A SECOND ORDER!

If you haven't completed payment, you don't have to do anything. You can place a new order, or leave it at that. We won't contact you if your payment remains pending, and it will be canceled after 6 months

Q15 : ORDER - Can I pay for someone else, and what name must I write in the order form?

YES, you can order a Guitar Pro license for someone else. The person who registers his/her license is the one we'll consider to be the final user. So you can either directly write that person's name, e-mail and postal addresses in the order form, or yours if you prefer to receive the software and give it later to the person (as a gift, for example).

Q16 : UPGRADE - I have Guitar Pro 3, 4, or 5, do I have to pay for the 6th version? How do I get the upgrade?

You still need to buy the new version (contrary to the updates within a given version, which are free). However, you will get a 50% discount for the 6th version if you already have a licence for Guitar Pro 4 or 5.

NB : The discount is not available is you only own version 1, 2, or 3.

Q17 : PURCHASE - Can I get a refund if I am dissatisfied?

Your purchase can be refunded only if you have not registered your license or activated your software yet.

Q18 : LICENSE - May I install Guitar Pro 6 on more than one computer?

YES. The purchased license is acquired by the end user with no time limit, and gives him the right to install the software on a maximum of 5 CPUs or operating systems over a 12-month period(*).
It is understood that the use of the software, even when installed on 5 CPUs or operating systems, is for a single user and, by extension, to his/her family (same household). This makes it possible, for example, to reinstall Guitar Pro in case of (a) new installation(s) / change(s) of operating systems, or in case of a double installation on a desktop CPU at home and a laptop belonging to the same user.

(*) You have 5 activations available. For each one used, the total count of activations drops by one. One year after each activation, the total count of available activations is augmented by one.

Q19 : LICENSE - What if the system does not recognize my USER ID and KEY ID?

First make sure that you have correctly entered your USER ID and KEY ID (for instance, do not type "1nt" for "int", and respect the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX for the Key ID).
We recommend you use the license-recovery form to check your license numbers.

Q20 : LICENSE - How can I recover my license info (USER ID, KEY ID) if I have lost it?

You simply need to use the license-recovery form.

In case the e-mail address you used when you registered your license isn't active any more, do contact us directly. Please make sure you give us your full name and postal address at the time of your purchase/registration of Guitar Pro, so we can retrieve your file from our database.

Q21 : INSTALLATION - Can I install GP6 on a 64-bit Linux architecture?

We currently do not have 64bits versions. But you can use 32bit wrappers to use GP6 with a 64bit distribution.

Q22 : OLDER VERSION - Can I retrieve an older version of Guitar Pro that I bought a while ago?

YES. You can retrieve a copy of an older version of Guitar Pro, provided you registered your license with us.
NB: Guitar Pro is Mac compatible since version 5. If you wish to reinstall an older version on a Mac computer you won't be able to, and we'd recommend that you upgrade to version 6.

Log into your Customer Area with your registered UserID and password. If you do not recall what they are, please use the license-recovery form.
In case the e-mail address you used when you registered your license isn't active any more, do contact us directly. Please make sure you give us your full name and postal address at the time of your purchase/registration of Guitar Pro, so we can retrieve your file from our database.

Q23 : SMARTPHONE - Is the Guitar Pro app for iPhone / iPad available for other systems?

Please go the iTunes Store and discover Guitar Pro for iPod touch / iPhone / iPad.

We hope to develop an app for the Android smartphones later this year. It is unlikely that we adapt it to other systems.
